Relm Wireless, West Melbourne, Fla., expects to ship $1 million worth of product by the end of September to fill orders from the National Interagency Fire Center, the state of Alaska and the Bureau of Land Management in California.
The orders for BK Radio-brand products and accessories include portable two-way radios and “clamshells” that will be deployed in firefighting efforts by NIFC, Alaska and BLM. Clamshells are devices that enable the use of regular alkaline batteries to power BK portable radio units in place of rechargeable nickel-cadmium or nickel-metal-hydride cells. This allows for quick, inexpensive replacement and uninterrupted communication in situations where recharging is not possible.
