The Independence (Mo.) Examiner reported that the Blue Springs (Mo.) Police Department has received a $24,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
The grant will be used to purchase a computer-controlled cross-connect to give the department’s radio system interoperability with other public safety agencies using different frequency bands. Police Lt. Jeff Rogers told a Blue Springs city council meeting that interoperability would help with mass casualty incidents and natural disasters.
The Examiner quoted Rogers as saying that the cross-connect “could be used for any number of things that requires a large number of emergency services. The public looks at us to be prepared to handle anything that comes along.”
