Nokia and Gemplus have combined efforts to offer the option of one number for international roaming and the ability to own multiple handsets.
Gemplus has introduced the first Removable User Identity Module (R-UIM) technology – in conjunction with Nokia’s CDMA handset technology. The card will allow North American wireless customers to roam between various CDMA coverage areas, as well as GSM coverage areas, by transferring the R-IUM card from one CDMA (or GSM) phone designed to operate in the desired region.
This technology allows users to choose between handsets they wish to use on any particular day or time of day.
