MariTEL announces new spectrum development group
MariTEL Inc. has announced the formation of MariTEL Spectrum Development. MariTEL holds radio spectrum rights for up to 19 12.5 kilohertzkHz VHF (1576/162 MHz) contiguous channelized pairs with a presence in 45 states covering 80 percent of the U.S. population.
Part of this spectrum is being used for MariTEL’s marine communications business. However, because MariTEL intends to shift the focus of its core business from voice-centric to data-centric services, MariTEL now has up to 540 kHz of VHF spectrum available for other purposes. MariTEL Spectrum Development will manage these frequencies.
According to a statement from the company, “MariTEL can tailor an arrangement based on specific needs — from outright purchase of the spectrum, to a joint venture in which MariTEL manages communication services. Further, MariTEL has developed partnering arrangements with major radio equipment suppliers, such as Motorola, Kenwood, Tait, Dataradio, ICOM, and IPMobileNet to ensure maximum compatibility between this spectrum and the intended application.”
ReefEdge unrolls new “fabric”
ReefEdge Inc. announced its Wireless Services Fabric, a major advance in addressing the full range of requirements of wireless LAN deployments within large enterprises.
The Wireless Services Fabric is comprised of a family of products that conform to a common architecture and address issues such as ease-of-deployment, management, RF monitoring, security, mobility, alerting, and reporting. Products announced as part of the ReefEdge Wireless Services Fabric include: the CS200 Wireless Services Concentrator, AirMonitor, and Multi-Site Manager.
The Wireless Services Fabric provides a suite of services that make wireless networks as easy to deploy and operate as their wired counterparts. These services include core packet-processing services for security and mobility; closely interlinked core management services for RF monitoring, reporting and multi-site management; and integration services for fitting the wireless LAN with existing network authentication, accounting, directory, logging, and management systems.
Additionally, the Wireless Services Fabric has the ability to incorporate third party services and share control data and information between the various components of the system enabling them to have consistent views of users, policies, traffic and RF characteristics. The Wireless Services Fabric ensures that all services work together to create an autonomous wireless LAN environment that simplifies wireless LAN deployment and operation.
