NORAD taps Avtec Console Systems
As a direct result of the events on Sept. 11, 2001, Combat Air Patrols by the US Air Force had to be supported in America’s heartland. Hundreds of new circuits for air-to-ground communications were required to meet the mission requirements and the existing systems lacked the capacity to handle these new requirements.
Each defense sector command center has up to 100 or more console positions and more than 1,500 circuits.
Also, each center required the capability to take over the responsibility of one or all of the other sectors, in the event of failure or incapacity of another center. Avtec has developed a product intended to meet those requirements.
Avtec’s DSPatch family, of console products, comprising DSPatch32, DSPatch, and DSPatchNET are scalable from 32 – 4,096 ports supporting both analog and digital circuits (T-1). DSPatchNET is also Avtec’s platform for migration to VoIP.
3U energy station offers 3,000 watts
Magnetek’s Power Electronics Group announced the release of their 3000W Compact Energy Station.
This energy station is a compact (3U H × 10.8″ D), full-featured power system designed for today’s communications environments where space is limited. Fan-assisted cooling of the rectifiers means that there is no need to leave open space above and below the system thereby reducing the required rack space. In addition, all equipment is front-accessible for use in cabinets and other space-restrictive environments.
It is a high-reliability system designed for operation at a wide temperature range (-40° C to 55° C). Temperature-hardened electronics provide reliability in remote applications such as wireless base stations, roadside terminals, and remote switching cabinets. The flexible design is compatible with a wide range of input voltages and allows operation with or without batteries.
Available for mounting on 19″ or 23″ rack and ETSI. 19″ and ETSI model supports up to four, hot pluggable 13.7A rectifiers while the 23″ model supports up to five (4+1) hot pluggable 13.7A rectifiers. Output is 48 Vdc (up to 54.8A). Input is 90 Vac to 264 Vac (auto ranging). Built-in Low Voltage Disconnect (LVD). Easily programmable (locally or remotely) control and communication module provides advanced battery management capability. Optional Output Distribution Module with six breakers and a terminal block is available for a complete power system solution.
Evaluation units of the new models are available in four weeks, with production quantities available eight weeks ARO. Pricing for the 3000W Compact Energy Station Series is $1,600 in OEM quantities.
Ritron radio callbox boosts security
Ritron announced compatibility of the basic and XT versions of the OutPost Callboxes with the following protocols; DTMF ANI, MDC-1200, and GE-Star. Once the PTT button of the OutPost Callbox is depressed, the installed encoder sends the callbox location information to a decoding unit.
Critical emergency and public safety applications require immediate response. Often times, the person requiring assistance may not be able to adequately describe their location. Automatic Numeric Identification technology provides a specific encoded ID number identifying the location of the caller to dispatch personnel.
Ritron OutPost Callboxes were selected as a cost-effective wireless solution for the Town of Sleepy Hollow in New York. The town will be deploying 20 OutPost Callboxes installed with MDC-1200 encoders along potentially dangerous rural roads. Additional units will be installed at various parks and playgrounds. Sleepy Hollow operates on a conventional VHF repeater system. Emergency calls are received at the Police Department Central Dispatch by a Zetron console utilizing a 4-digit numeric display decoder. Once the location of the callbox is identified the closest patrol car will be notified.
These roadside callboxes are expected to significantly reduce response time.
A national sports broadcasting system will be installing seven OutPost Callboxes with Cimmaron QE-2 encoders at various locations throughout its campus parking lots. The system operates on UHF LTR Trunking utilizing a Trident NTS system with a C Plus II alphanumeric decoder. The 24/7 operation of the campus mandates that facility security quickly respond to all emergency calls, especially between 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. The rugged design, cost-effectiveness, battery operation, and compatibility with an existing two-way system made the OutPost the best choice for specific security needs.
Other uses of the OutPost callbox include: airports, hospitals, schools, beaches, greenways, marinas, pools, amusement parks, campgrounds, construction sites, warehousing, manaufacturing, and assembly lines.

Dynamic announces CallSAFE
Dynamic Instruments (DI) is pleased to announce CallSAFE for Reliant, a robust secure online storage — RAID 5 disk array system. CallSAFE is a complete audio storage and management system that provides extended online storage. Call data is safe guarded on a fault-tolerant, disk array system with critical system components that operate in a mirrored architecture that can be replaced without affecting system operations. CallSAFE™ is virtually a “hands free” voice logging system, operating from your phone or equipment room with desktop access to all stored calls. CallSAFE capacity is available starting at 320GB to 2,240GB of storage. Users can quickly locate calls from months past without handling media discs or leaving their workspace.
CallSAFE acts as an intelligent search engine providing local and remote call access with enhanced features, such as the ability to classify a specific call from a set of customer defined call classification definitions.
