Motorola’s Broadband Communications sector announced today it would develop a wireless location-based product offering based on a platform created by Wheels of Zeus—a start-up founded by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. The products would be targeted to both individuals and businesses. The system incorporates “radio tags” that can be attached to a variety of objects, from people and animals to manufactured goods, said the Wall Street Journal. The satellite-based location technology coupled with radio base stations would protect such goods from theft, said the paper. Consequently, the retail industry is a prime target market for the offering.
