Motorola introduces two-way radio, cordless phone combo
Motorola today unveiled the CLS1450c two-way radio that incorporates a digital 2.4 GHz cordless phone. Targeted to the business market, the CLS1450c’s ability to seamlessly switch from radio to phone operation allows managers to take customer calls then respond rapidly by alerting employees to customer needs via the two-way radio function.
“At Motorola, we always look to respond to customer demand by providing products that manage as many needs as possible,” said Rafael Rivera, marketing communications manager, in a statement.
The CLS1450c requires no monthly fees or service contracts, though an FCC license is required and monthly charges for the telephone service would apply, the company said. The handset offers 56 business-exclusive frequencies, which enable users to avoid the chatter that can emanate from GMRS/FRS radios that feature frequencies intended for recreational use. The CLS1450c also moves from one-to-one to group communication mode at the “touch of a button,” the company said.
The handset measures 5.4 x 2.1 inches, weighs less than seven ounces and comes equipped with a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery that provides up to 10 hours of battery life. The two-way radio has a range of 200,000 square feet, 15 floors, and five miles, while the cordless phone has a range of 100,000 square feet around the phone base, though range will vary based on terrain and conditions, Motorola said.
