The Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association has proposed a solution to solve 800 MHz interference that would result in a timely rebanding of the airwaves and avoid a lengthy legal battle. The proposal calls for Nextel to place $3 billion in a trust fund for the rebanding. In return, Nextel would receive 10 MHz of spectrum at 2.1 GHz, instead of at 1.9 GHz as it has sought. While Nextel initially said it couldn’t “envision a plan” that would include the 2.1 GHz airwaves, Verizon said it would support the proposal.
