The City of Portsmouth, England, has deployed a citywide mesh network developed by Maitland, Fla.-based MeshNetworks and installed by U.K.-based Now Wireless, a developer and implementer of wireless network infrastructure. The mesh network is being used by the city’s transit agency to provide real-time arrival and departure information to passengers. The data is collected from on-board units on more than 300 buses, and then wirelessly transmitted to and displayed at 36 bus stops and nine kiosks throughout Portsmouth. The system also provides city administrators and bus operators with real-time vehicle, driver and route information.
