Motorola commits $3 million to tsunami relief
Motorola said it has donated more than $3 million so far in cash and equipment to aid the tsunami relief effort in South Asia. About $2.3 million in cash was donated in addition to about $800 million in equipment and technical support. In addition to a direct contribution, Motorola also matched employee contributions, the company said. The donated equipment included subscriber radio sets, repeater/base station units and mobile phones.
In other news, Tivo, the largest mobile phone carrier in South America with more than 25 million subscribers, has selected Motorola’s push-to-talk-over cellular (PoC) solution. Motorola said it was selected from a field of competitors after a three-month trial.
