Nortel said it has successfully completed a trial of its high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) technology in Tel Aviv with cellular provider Partner Communications.
Various wireless broadband applications were demonstrated, including DVD-quality video streaming and downloads of large e-mail attachments, over a UMTS network provided by Nortel, with connection speeds exceeding 1 Mb/s.
HSDPA is the next generation of UMTS and offers data rates that are three times faster than those provided by commercial UMTS networks and which are comparable to digital subscriber line networks, according to Nortel.
