Motorola combines networks, GEMS units
Motorola recently announced a reorganization that includes combining the company’s networks business and its government & enterprise mobility solutions (GEMS) business into a single unit.
With the combination, Motorola will have three business units: mobile devices, connected home solutions and networks & enterprises. Greg Brown, president of the former GEMS unit, will lead the new segment and continue to report to Motorola Chairman and CEO Ed Zander.
“This reorganization will allow us to strengthen our position in providing end-to-end network infrastructure solutions to private, public and enterprise customers worldwide,” Zander said in a prepared statement. “With a more streamlined structure, Motorola will move faster, improve the cost structure of the company, including general and administrative activities, and be more effective in meeting customer needs going forward.”
Adrian Nemcek, who led the former networks business unit for the last five years, will assist Brown in the transition through the second quarter, according to Motorola. After that, Nemcek will assist Zander with “special initiatives” until Nemcek retires later this year.
