Emergency alert solution
Raytheon JPS unveiled an emergency alert capability in partnership with Invizeon. The capability leverages the ACU-2000 IP gateway from JPS and Invizeon’s Chain software-based emergency alert application to let organizations deliver text and voice messages to radios, cellular handsets, PDAs and pagers. Chain is a managed, hosted service that lets organizations create predefined response plans tailored to specific events, according to Invizeon.

IP dispatch console
Catalyst Communications Technologies unveiled its IP console, a scalable, fault-tolerant architecture that runs on commercial, off-the-shelf hardware. The console offers several features for dispatchers, including Unit ID, a common alias database and emergency signaling. In addition, it also offers unidirectional and bidirectional patches so dispatchers can route audio to groups of radios that can hear traffic from other agencies but cannot interrupt communications on those channels, according to the company.

Space-saving dispatch interface
Zetron introduced the Model 4219 audio interface that features a slimmer interface box that can be mounted on, under or behind the desk, or in a 19-inch rack; it also can be used as a stand for an LCD flat-screen monitor. Newly designed speakers provide a heavily weighted, non-skid base for positioning on the desk, or they can be wall-mounted. The speakers offer 5 W power output and a built-in modulation LED that helps dispatchers identify the source speaker.

Hydrogen fuel cell
Relm Wireless is working with Trulite to offer a hydrogen fuel cell power system for use with its BK Radio Rapid Deployment Portable Repeater. Because the system employs fuel cartridges that contain dry sodium borohydride, it also can be used indoors.
Relm also introduced its S Series base station/repeater that offers 255 channels, 50 W power output and programmable linking. It operates over frequencies from 30 to 870 MHz.

Portable radios, repeater
HYT America unveiled analog portable radios and its first repeater. The TC-980 is a 5-watt UHF portable radio that meets IP67 standards for protection against water and dust. Other radios include the TC-780, a 5-watt VHF radio; the TC-700 FM, an intrinsically safe and customizable radio; the TC-610, another 5-watt radio that has an IP66 rating; and the TC-620, which offers an LED battery gauge and advanced speaker protection technology.
The TR-800 repeater includes an AC/DC power supply with battery charging in addition to a thermal-controlled fan. Its CTCSS/CDCSS feature lets users talk on personal groups without disturbance or unwanted intrusion. Its repeater hang time tools ensure it continues to transmit after an active and valid signal is no longer received, which reduces delays due to the setup of a repeater link, the company said.

Rugged encryption key management device
Tait Radio Communications released its Key Fill Device that is designed to let a tactical squad or SWAT team quickly and efficiently load an encryption key onto radios in the field.
The lightweight, rugged PDA is IP67-rated for dust and water immersion. It offers four software options: Standard, Fast (which enables automatic key loading for quick and accurate deployment across a large number of radios), Team Guard (which lets team leaders or technicians — in two easy steps, according to the company — generate the keys solely for their team and dispose of them afterward), and uKEK Manager, which was developed for situations where many radios are being commissioned for daily use on an OTAR-enabled system.
