Emergency alert solution

Raytheon JPS unveiled an emergency alert capability in partnership with Invizeon. The capability leverages the ACU-2000 IP gateway from JPS and Invizeon’s Chain software-based emergency alert application to let organizations deliver text and voice messages to radios, cellular handsets, PDAs and pagers. Chain is a managed, hosted service that lets organizations create predefined response plans tailored to specific events, according to Invizeon.

Transportable repeater system

Daniels Electronics announced the addition of a portable, collapsible antenna mast, solar panel and battery for use with its transportable repeater system, which was introduced two years ago.

The external battery adds 36 hours of operation to the 12 hours of operation provided by the repeater’s internal battery. The 44 W solar panel recharges the batteries. A variety of antennas can be mounted to the collapsible mast, with heights ranging from 2 to 15 meters (6.5 to 49 feet).

8-channel LTR panel

Idylltek’s Model LT8R is an LTR controller that offers multiple channels in a single enclosure. Available in two, four, six and eight channels, the unit includes an 80-character LCD that displays all activity on all in-use repeaters simultaneously, according to the company.

IP dispatch console

Catalyst Communications Technologies unveiled its IP console, a scalable, fault-tolerant architecture that runs on commercial, off-the-shelf hardware. The console offers several features for dispatchers, including Unit ID, a common alias database and emergency signaling. In addition, it also offers unidirectional and bidirectional patches so dispatchers can route audio to groups of radios that can hear traffic from other agencies but cannot interrupt communications on those channels, according to the company.

Space-saving dispatch interface

Zetron introduced the Model 4219 audio interface that features a slimmer interface box that can be mounted on, under or behind the desk, or in a 19-inch rack; it also can be used as a stand for an LCD flat-screen monitor. Newly designed speakers provide a heavily weighted, non-skid base for positioning on the desk, or they can be wall-mounted. The speakers offer 5 W power output and a built-in modulation LED that helps dispatchers identify the source speaker.

Remote antenna control

PEPRO released the Pro-Comm100, a remote pan and tilt directional antenna mount controller. The remote control device lets tower operators remotely adjust antennas without physically climbing a tower, according to the company. It controls up to three antenna mounts that operate independently and offers six segment mounting capabilities for 360° horizontal and 7° vertical range operation.

Bidirectional amplifiers

Comprod Communications introduced VHF (132 to 174 MHz), UHF (406 to 512 MHz) and 700/800/900 MHz bidirectional amplifiers that are designed for in-building solutions, according to the company. The amplifiers have a maximum gain of +72 dB.

Hydrogen fuel cell

Relm Wireless is working with Trulite to offer a hydrogen fuel cell power system for use with its BK Radio Rapid Deployment Portable Repeater. Because the system employs fuel cartridges that contain dry sodium borohydride, it also can be used indoors.

Relm also introduced its S Series base station/repeater that offers 255 channels, 50 W power output and programmable linking. It operates over frequencies from 30 to 870 MHz.

Portable radios, repeater

HYT America unveiled analog portable radios and its first repeater. The TC-980 is a 5-watt UHF portable radio that meets IP67 standards for protection against water and dust. Other radios include the TC-780, a 5-watt VHF radio; the TC-700 FM, an intrinsically safe and customizable radio; the TC-610, another 5-watt radio that has an IP66 rating; and the TC-620, which offers an LED battery gauge and advanced speaker protection technology.

The TR-800 repeater includes an AC/DC power supply with battery charging in addition to a thermal-controlled fan. Its CTCSS/CDCSS feature lets users talk on personal groups without disturbance or unwanted intrusion. Its repeater hang time tools ensure it continues to transmit after an active and valid signal is no longer received, which reduces delays due to the setup of a repeater link, the company said.

Rugged encryption key management device

Tait Radio Communications released its Key Fill Device that is designed to let a tactical squad or SWAT team quickly and efficiently load an encryption key onto radios in the field.

The lightweight, rugged PDA is IP67-rated for dust and water immersion. It offers four software options: Standard, Fast (which enables automatic key loading for quick and accurate deployment across a large number of radios), Team Guard (which lets team leaders or technicians — in two easy steps, according to the company — generate the keys solely for their team and dispose of them afterward), and uKEK Manager, which was developed for situations where many radios are being commissioned for daily use on an OTAR-enabled system.

Upgradable 802.11 access point

Meru Networks introduced the dual-radio AP302, a wireless access point that conforms to legacy IEEE 802.11a/b/g standards but can be upgraded to the 802.11n draft 2.0 standard. The AP302 is the company’s fourth access point to incorporate the 802.11n draft 2.0 standard, the company said.

Vehicular repeaters

Pyramid Communications unveiled two vehicular repeaters. The SVR-250 synthesized vehicular repeater is available in VHF; UHF; and 700, 800 and 900 MHz frequencies. It is PC-programmable for up to 20 channels, with wideband and narrowband, CTCSS/DCS emergency or dual tone on a per channel basis. It also can interface with analog or Project 25-compatible digital radios. The P25 synthesized vehicular repeater is compliant with the P25 Phase I Digital Common Air Interface protocol and features AES and DES encryption and emergency signaling from portable radios to dispatchers, according to the company.

Mobile radios

EFJohnson debuted the ES series of Project 25-compliant mobile radios that features better audio and a smooth migration path to P25 for many public safety users, according to the company.

Other features include 64-key dual encryption and the capability to access 864 channels, although radios can be configured for fewer channels for customers wanting to save money. The ES mobile includes over-the-air programming using the same software package that supports the ES portable radios.

Also announced recently were several power-oriented accessories, including a new lithium-ion battery, a rapid battery charger that can charge a portable radio battery in an hour, a six-bay charger and a tri-chemistry charger that charges batteries made of lithium ion, nickel metal hydride and nickel cadmium.

P25 trunking devices

Icom launched a line of Project 25 trunking products that includes mobiles, portables and repeaters. Each device delivers trunked voice calls, including announcement group calls and broadcast calls, and trunked public switched network calls, including unit to network and network to unit, according to the company.

Digital signal booster

The Node A digital signal booster from Andrew supports multiple band configurations — including land mobile radio, cellular and WiMAX, among others — in a single unit. The device offers automatic gain control per time slot for upcoming narrowband P25 networks. It also provides up to 32 user-programmable channel filters and four variable-band filters, according to the company. The unit has a two- and four-slot box configuration and provides software-based variable bandwidth filtering from 6.25 kHz to 5 MHz.
