TeleCommunication Systems expressed support of the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS). The CMAS is intended to transmit geographically targeted emergency alert text messages conveying imminent emergency threats.
The FCC summarized the alerts that devices would receive under the system include Presidential Alerts, national emergency-related alerts delivered to the public that would preempt any other pending alerts, and imminent threat alerts, alerts with information on emergencies that may pose an imminent risk to people’s lives. It also includes Child Abduction Emergency/AMBER Alerts related to missing or endangered children.
