The Kentucky State Police deployed Federal Signal’s SmartMSG critical communications system to support first-responder interoperability. The system sends voice alerts or text messages to cell phones, specifically to personnel working in the state’s special response team, HazMat team, canine units and hazardous device technicians. Disparate warning systems—different brands, models and frequencies—can be bridged by docking radios into the mobile command-and-control unit or stationary unit that accompanies the system, according to the company.
