Notebook from Itronix ruggedized for vehicle applications
General Dynamics Itronix announced today that the new GD6000 vehicle-rugged notebook is now available to the law-enforcement market. Based on the company’s GoBook VR-2, the new notebook has been optimized specifically for use in vehicle applications, said Patrick White, the company’s vice president of strategic marketing.
The notebook weighs 6.2 pounds and meets the MIL-STD 810F standard for temperature range, vibration resistance, dust protection and humidity. In addition, its shell includes reinforced hinges to protect against vibration when an officer is involved in a high-speed vehicle pursuit, White said.
“You can imagine the type of vibration that can occur and shock from various activities in a vehicle,” he said. “So we designed this product to withstand those requirements above and beyond semi-rugged computers as well as commercially available notebooks and laptops.”
The notebook has an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 processor, and a 120 GB hard-drive with 4 GB of memory. It also includes integrated GPS and wireless connectivity (Wi-Fi, cellular data and Bluetooth). White said an embedded module supports data encryption within the system; users also have the option to upgrade security with the addition of embedded Computrace software from Absolute Software. “The software provides enhanced platform security, like a Low-Jack for computers,” he said. “Users sign up for a subscription-based service that can remotely wipe-out data on the computer or lock its contents if it’s lost or stolen.”
The notebook starts at approximately $3495. Cost increases based on configurations, such as expanded memory, White said.
