Mass-notification alerts improve situational awareness
Use of emergency alerting systems has become more widespread, as both enterprises and public-safety turn to the technology to evacuate areas and warn the public of pending perils. Today, I spoke with Adm. Thomas Fargo about emergency alert systems and how they are being used in the government sector.
Fargo was the 20th officer to hold the position of commander of the U.S. Pacific Command. His 35 years of service included six tours in Washington, D.C., and five commands in the Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Middle East — directing the joint operations of the Army, the Navy, the Marine Corps and the Air Force across 100 million square miles.
Fargo noted that emergency alert systems have become crucial for situational awareness. The technology allowed his teams to mobilize with a cadre of information at their disposal, which further supports the case for continued investment in mass-notification systems, Fargo said.
