EF Johnson announces P25 mobile radios for UHF, VHF
EF Johnson Technologies yesterday announced the addition of UHF and VHF mobile radios to its 5300 ES Series Project 25-compliant product portfolio.
Last year, EF Johnson unveiled 5300 ES Series P25 mobile radios for the 700 MHz and 800 MHz bands that included SMARTNET/SmartZone operation, over-the-air rekeying and reprogramming, support for as many as 864 talkgroups, P25 packet data and DES/DES-OFB/AES encryption algorithms. The new mobile radios provide the same feature set for the UHF and VHF bands, EF Johnson spokesman Kevin Nolan said.
In addition, the mobile radios also include EF Johnson’s lighting control head, which uses electroluminescent technology to provide better user viewing of the control panel, even in extreme glare environments, Nolan said.
“You can see [the control panel] very clearly from anywhere in a vehicle at just about any angle,” Nolan said, noting that the display was inspired by aircraft cockpit and tank instrumentation designs. “We are the first land-mobile radio supplier to have [electroluminescent technology].”
Nolan said the UHF and VHF mobile radios are immediately available and are being shipped to military, federal, state and local customers.
“Military, civilian and federal, as well as state and local law enforcement agencies need interoperable, reliable, standards-based solutions,” EF Johnson President and CEO Michael Jalbert said in a prepared statement. “First responders who operate UHF and VHF communications systems can now see and hear the difference in our rugged, reliable, and solid mobile radios. Our innovative new lighting control head, featuring the brightest and clearest display on the market, is also available in VHF and UHF bands.”
