Proxim launches line of high-speed broadband data products
Proxim Wireless introduced a customer premise equipment (CPE) series of products designed for several markets, including the enterprise and rural broadband markets.
The Tsunami MP-8150 CPE series of products is designed to transmit data speeds of more than 100 Mbps, support 2×2 MIMO (multiple-input, multiple-output) and be deployed in non-line-of-sight situations, in both indoor and outdoor form factors, Proxim said.
“The 100 megabits of capacity helps eliminate T-1s or T-3s to backhaul Wi-Fi or dedicated business services,” noted Jeff Smith, vice president of sales and business development with Proxim.
Last year, Proxim introduced the Tsunami QB-8100 point-to-point and the Tsunami MP-8100 point-to-multipoint base-station solutions, which deliver data speeds up to 300 Mpbs. The MP-8150 is sold in conjunction with these products and supports a range of licensed and unlicensed frequencies, including public safety’s 4.9 GHz band.
“The performance and value of the new 8150-CPE will drive a quicker ROI for WISPs and service providers,” said Proxim Wireless CEO and President Pankaj Manglik in a press release. “We expect these new products to drive new profitable business models as service providers struggle to keep up with the explosion in data and video traffic without commensurate growth in ARPU. These new CPEs, along with the Tsunami MP-8100 base stations, fill service providers’ need to provide substantial bandwidth with minimal capital expenditure, across a wide range of frequencies, with both indoor and outdoor solutions.”
Smith said Proxim Wireless’ designed the CPE unit to be a standalone outdoor radio that can be deployed where service is needed. An indoor version of the CPE will come in August.
“The device is smart enough to understand when big power users are accessing the network and when they can use unlimited capacity,” Smith said.
Moreover, a single base station can provide broadband access to residences and businesses, and a CPE unit can be outfitted with Wi-Fi to provide hotzone coverage for Wi-Fi-enabled devices.
