Company calls for beta testers of point-of-care iPad application
PEPID, a developer of clinical decision-support information and technology, is calling for iPad users to help test the latest version of its subscription-based software suite used as a reference tool for point-of-care practitioners. The software is designed specifically to take full advantage of the iPad’s large screen and user-friendly functionality, said Edward Reynolds, the company’s chief technology officer.
PEPID includes a vast database of disease profiles and medical conditions, coupled with medical and dosing calculators, a drug interactions checker, illustrations, laboratory values and a differential diagnosis generator or symptoms generator. While emergency medical records may be a future application, Reynolds said the current version does not contain patient data.
“It’s a point-of-care tool that a clinician or EMT would use at the bedside, such as a drug interaction checker,” he said.
Reynolds said the iPad beta-application will let users tap into the database either from a wired or wireless connection. Those interested in beta-testing the application can apply through the company’s Web site, www.pepid.com/iPad. Beta testers will not need a current subscription to PEPID to participate, he said.
