FCC to consider LTE interoperability order
FCC commissioners this month are expected to approve an order designed to establish a technical framework that is designed to ensure interoperability between all LTE networks using 700 MHz public-safety spectrum throughout the nation.
In terms of the technical requirements, the proposed order is “not much different” from the FCC’s previous actions mandating a technical framework to be used by public-safety waiver recipients in the deployment of 700 MHz broadband networks, FCC spokesman Rob Kenny said.
“At the end of the day, they have to do certain things to make sure they can connect,” Kenny said. “This makes it definitive; it’s not specific to some waiver application or waiver recipient. Everybody has to follow it, whether you’re a vendor, a carrier or public safety.”
The FCC is scheduled to vote on the item during its Jan. 25 meeting.
