General Dynamics Itronix launches GD8200 rugged laptop
General Dynamics Itronix unveiled the GD8200, a ruggedized laptop loaded with a high-speed Intel Core i7 processor. The device is MIL-STD-810G certified, and will remain operational after a 48-inch drop, blowing rain, temperature shock, in humidity, explosive atmosphere, contamination by fluids and solar radiation, fungus, acoustic noise, acidic atmosphere and gunfire shock.
The 7.8-pound notebook also meets MIL-STD-461F and IP65 specifications and is certified withstand electromagnetic emissions, said Carlos Nieves, the company’s product manager for rugged mobile computing solutions. The laptop is the “ultimate rugged notebook” because it meets three aforementioned top industry standards, Nieves said.
“This lets users work in extreme environments with vibration, temperature fulgurations or where it may be prone to drops, in addition to being resistant to water, dust and rain,” he said.
The laptop is equipped with a 13.3-inch LCD featuring the DynaVue II touchscreen display technology. In addition, Nieves said the embedded Intel processor supports 4G wireless connectivity, 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS tracking technology. It also offers approximately eight hours of operation with main battery, 12 hours with secondary battery as well as a full backlit keyboard for better illumination, a glove-friendly, touchscreen display and a FIPS 201-compliant Smart Card reader.
The GD8200 list price starts at $4,460, Nieves said.
