What’s the Hot Wireless Technology in 2015?
“Public safety and government users are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of maximizing coverage in every single structure. That is why we see distributed antenna systems (DAS) and in building wireless as the key technologies in 2015. Schools, in particular, need to be sure that their radios work in every nook and cranny in every building on campus. For government users, that means that in every structure, say, in the basement of a courthouse where a jail might be, there is not a spot where you afford to have less than perfect coverage,” according to Patti Ryg, Senior Account Manager with Primus, an Enterprise Wireless Alliance (EWA) vendor member and a distribution company founded over 30 years ago.
Expanding on the importance of in building coverage, Patti said that “If there is an incident that a local police or fire agency is responding to and they are unable to communicate once they get on site and into a building, that incident can swiftly turn into a critical emergency. Wherever there is the potential impact on many people, you need thorough in building coverage. That’s why many of our dealer customers work directly with the fire marshall, because they know where the coverage is weak or shoddy. Improving coverage in an existing structure is important and it’s equally important in new construction.
“Dealers can provide total wireless support to any end user, government or commercial, and they are locally owned businesses. That way, you personally know who you are working with; they live in your community. A distributor has the advantage of supplying and shipping products from multiple vendors on a single purchase order. We suggest that you develop a strong relationship with a distributor and your local dealer.”
Patti advised that users should also keep their eyes on the advancements in multi-band antenna technology and predicted more widespread use among their customers of microwave for back hauling a radio network rather than fiber or land lines in the coming year.
