Harris County: Greg Jurrens explains how FirstNet can address LMR backhaul challenges
Greg Jurrens, senior manager of radio services and public–safety technology for Harris County (Texas) Universal Services, describes how the county has used prioritized FirstNet broadband to provide backhaul links to deployable LMR units in challenging rural environments where commercial networks can get saturated, such as along the route to the funeral of former President George H.W. Bush. Jurrens also discusses a new solution the county is using to provide in-building coverage. Jurrens presented his findings and spoke with IWCE’s Urgent Communications Editor Donny Jackson during the Winter Institute conducted this week by the Texas A&M University Internet2 Technology Evaluation Center (ITEC).
