Vivato Wi-Fi solution chosen for Port of Seattle deployment
Tideworks Technology, which provides software solutions for terminal operations and shipping lines, has deployed four Vivato 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi switches at the Port of Seattle. The deployment provides Wi-Fi access across 190 acres to more than 100 concurrent users, Vivato said. Conventional wireless networks tend to be cost-prohibitive in marine deployments, Vivato said, because of the number of access points that are required to provide adequate coverage, plus the costs associated with providing electricity and Ethernet backhaul to each access point. In comparison, the Vivato sytem, which also two bridge/routers, was deployed for “a fraction of the cost,” according to Allen Wall, director of alliances-Americas, for Vivato partner Psion Teklogix.
