Strix Systems’ Access/One Outdoor Wireless Systems (OWS) and Personal Mobile Command (PMC) communication systems are being deployed by public-safety agencies at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. The wireless system will be embedded into the PMC, a portable, ruggedized wearable unit that establishes wireless broadband network communications between each unit and emergency command vehicles. According to the company, it acts like a mobile communications center with integrated wireless broadband and satellite access for real-time video surveillance and personal video or voice communications. Emergency response command and public-safety vehicles also will be armed with OWS nodes equipped with high-power 802.11a/b/g/j and 4.9 GHz radios.
