Airbus DS CEO highlights company’s ‘momentum,’ planned 911/LMR partnerships with commercial carriers
Airbus DS Communications has used this approach to deploy P25 networks in Canada for several years via a partnership with carrier Bell Canada, Freinberg said.
“In the U.S., we are in the process of bidding some of these opportunities,” he said. “We have not deployed them as of yet. We are in the go-to-market stage.”
Such mission-critical partnership arrangements can be structured to reflect the public-safety entity’s network infrastructure and technical capabilities, Freinberg said.
“We have customers in the Pennsylvania region that have procured their own private IP networks—either from the phone companies or fiber on their own—and they are managing dedicated bandwidth,” Freinberg said. “In other cases, there are telephone-company facilities in that same region that are IP meshed networks managed by the phone companies and have a quality-of-service guarantee from the phone companies.
“So, while they may be sharing facilities, they are dedicating bandwidth to them. I think that it is smart to deliver the quality of service that is necessary for voice, SMS [text messaging] and video going forward.”
