ETA offers myriad certification opportunities to dealer technicians
Technology in the field of mobile communications is evolving and advancing continuously, vehicle models are changing, and there is an ever-increasing number of new products—as well as updated versions of existing products—being added to the mobile installation marketplace.
ETA’s new Mobile Communications Electronics Installer (MCEI) certification includes basic knowledge concepts of land mobile radio (LMR) and associated electronics equipment installation.
As manufacturers develop new IP network products, skilled technicians are needed to test and terminate the fiber-optic, copper and coaxial cables that connect these products. There are hundreds of vendors making thousands of different IP network devices, any and all of which can be readily connected to a network, if the cable being used is properly terminated and tested.
“The Termination & Testing Technicians (TTT) certification emphasizes ETA’s dedication to being vendor-neutral and applying industry standards for terminations, tests and cable performance across the board to all manufacturers’ products,” Maher said.
Because 80% of installation failures are related to poor connectorization techniques, ETA requires a hands-on skills test in addition to the knowledge portion of the test to validate that the technician has acquired proper testing and termination techniques.
Efforts to strengthen public-safety communications systems are being accomplished through increased training and equipment. ETA introduced the General Communications Technician (GCT) Level 1 certification as a systems-based program modeled after general industry communication systems basics and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) guidelines.
ETA represents the technology industry, from the technician and educator to the corporate institution. Widely known for electronics-certification programs, ETA helps electronics technicians validate their knowledge and skills through certification to excel and advance in their fields. All ETA certifications are accredited through the International Certification Accreditation Council (ICAC) and align with the ISO-17024 standard.
