IWCE 2015 is over, but we are still working hard to serve our audience. To keep providing the stellar education that IWCE provides during its live show each spring, we are now hosting monthly hour-long online learning classes. This will extend the education portion of IWCE throughout the year and offer you an opportunity to continue the dialogue with your peers.
Legal expert Mee Soon Langohr from the law firm of Shulman Rogers will teach this month’s class about policy issues related to the use of body-worn cameras by law enforcement, which has been a focus of several recent incidents throughout the country.
While we discussed many technological aspects of body cameras during IWCE 2015 in March, this webinar—to be conducted at 2:00 p.m. next Wednesday, May 20—will discuss the policies that governments need to consider as they deploy body-worn cameras.
During the class, Langohr will provide answers and advice to entities trying to determine what they should consider fiscally, logistically and politically. Those wanting to participate can register today for $99.
Some of the topics that will be explored include how to pay for new equipment, who controls when a camera is utilized, and whether the location (for instance, public property versus private property) makes a difference in policies.
Logistics affect policy, as well. We will discuss policies associated with storing the large video files, sorting through thousands of hours of footage to find relevant video, and implementing public access to those the video in response to open-records requests from the public.
I hope you can join us for this month’s online learning class. Meanwhile, mark your calendars for Sept. 30, when IWCE’s Virtual Tradeshow will be conducted. Stay tuned for more information on this exciting one-day online event!
