Tait Communications leads P25 best practice with series of guides
What is in this article?
Tait Communications has released the fifth in a series of Best Practice guides that inform and advise operators of P25 mission-critical voice communications.
As the digital LMR platform favoured by the public safety sector, P25 delivers a high level of reliability and security, but it can pose challenges to those who are new to the technology. Tait’s P25 Best Practice Guides give radio system operators information needed to make key decisions around P25. The new guide, ‘Managing your P25 System’, focuses on network management.
Tait Principal Consultant Darek Wieczorek has been heavily involved in the guides’ development. “Modern systems deliver greater functionality and reliability, but operators must understand that managing them requires substantial expertise and effort,” Wieczorek explains. “The increased complexity has a significant impact on how these networks need to be managed.” He cites better planning up-front, interfacing with multiple entities, continuous monitoring and greater involvement in administrative issues, such as tracking assets and user IDs and encryption management as common requirements.
The guides have been developed by Tait following a series of extensive round table discussions with public safety communications professionals in the United States. Some participants were in the early stages of their communications upgrade project, others were experienced managers and consultants. This gave Tait insight into a broad range of problems and solutions.
There are now five best practice guides: First Steps; Specifying, Procuring, Implementing, and Managing, with further guides in planning.
