TRN dealer organization to cease operations, prepares to become part of EWA
TRN board members made the decision on Dec. 20 after “lengthy discussions … regarding the future viability of the TRNI and NTSS organizations,” according to the newsletter announcement, which was titled “TRNI—Born Again.”
TRN’s announcement is the latest step in a series of moves for the dealer organization—formerly known as U.S. Motorola Service Stations (USMSS)—during the past several years, when the number of land-mobile-radio (LMR) dealers has decreased dramatically amid significant consolidation within the industry.
In October 2014, the organization announced that it would change its name from USMSS to International Technology Resource Network (ITRN). But members voted to emphasize the “technology” aspect of the organization more than its “international” component, so the new name became Technology Resource Network International (TRNI). Later, the international aspect was deemphasized even more, and the organization has been known as TRN.
Bill Dow, TRN’s longtime executive director, told IWCE’s Urgent Communications that his final day as a TRN employee was at the end of October. Dow currently works for Westell Technologies.
