Video analytics based on clothing, general appearance more effective than facial recognition, says NICE Systems
The more clues a user has to work with, the faster he can find the right images and video.
“It’s very important to understand that we cannot replace the user or the operator, but we can make his work more efficient and effective,” Girmonsky said. “We will analyze many hours of video in seconds. We may need a few iterations, so it will take minutes.
“I cannot do what the operator can do. We are not there were there yet. I wish we were, we are not—not just NICE, but the technology.”
Good video quality and camera coverage are also important, with multiple cameras in a single location even more helpful.
But certain circumstances are challenging for the system. For example, good illumination is needed to let Suspect Search detect the colors and texture of clothing, so nighttime will prove problematic. Also, multiple people dressed similarly at a location also would confound the system.
“There are some stuff analytics we can solve, and some stuff which analytics cannot solve,” Girmonsky said. “It’s important to know it’s not magic.”
