VeriSign collaborates with WiMAX Forum

The WiMAX Forum, an organization dedicated to the creation of global standards for interoperability of wireless broadband access products, has selected VeriSign to provide public key infrastructure (PKI)-related services—which are used for authentication purposes—to all WiMAX Forum Certified solutions based on IEEE 802.16-2004 and ETSI HiperMAN 1.2.1. This partnership promotes industry-wide equipment compatibility and interoperability within the WiMAX Forum community by creating a single, trusted device authentication standard across broadband wireless networks, according to VeriSign.

RF measurement option now tests WLAN, WiMAX, Zigbee

Credence Systems announced its Modulated Vector Network Analysis RF measurement option for the Sapphire D-40 test system. The option adds wireless test capabilities for WLAN, WiMAX and Zigbee devices operating on the Sapphire system, according to Credence. The option is available in 16- and 32-port versions and offers frequency coverage through 6 GHz.

Wireless Accessories Unlimited introduces replacement battery

Wireless Accessories Unlimited introduced the 1700 mAh NiCD replacement battery for the Kenwood TK2180/3180 radio. The battery is manufactured with Grade A Japanese cells and offers gold-plated contacts, nickel-welded internal tabs, an ABS plastic case and an 18-month warranty, according to the company.

NATO awards contracts for friendly force tracking system

NATO awarded sub-contractors Globecomm Systems and EMS SATCOM a $7.8 million contract to provide a multinational, global positioning satellite-based, friendly force tracking system. The system will combine EMS’s satellite real-time eNcompass PDT-100 system with primary contractor Insite Technologies’ geoOps AVL software platform, while Globecomm will provide broad system integration capabilities to assist NATO with the monitoring, command and control of deployed forces,. The system also is expected to identify friendly versus enemy forces and help prevent fratricide.

Applied Global Technologies and SkyPort International announced a strategic partnership and introduced a new product line. The line includes a Perspective Command center that lets each person in the network share and view live data from multiple personnel, and the Mobile Site Command System, which was developed for those who require a mobile deployable platform for emergency response voice, video and data communications from one or more incident sites, according to Applied Global.

RELM extends U.S. Post Office contract

RELM Wireless extended its supply agreement with the U.S. Post Office through July 2007. The company is providing two-way portable radios and accessories to USPS installations nationwide, including main and associate post offices, administrative offices, training and technical centers and headquarters.

Mich. county invests in Wi-Fi

Washtenaw County, Mich., has chosen Proxim Wireless’s broadband wireless infrastructure products for its county facilities. The county has deployed the company’s ORiNOCO Wi-Fi products and Tsunami GX carrier-class Ethernet bridges for building-to-building connectivity.
