Tri-city riverfront offers Wi-Fi

The Kentucky/Ohio riverfront now offers free Wi-Fi access to citizens and visitors. The new Wi-Fi system uses a combination of radios and antennas with 802.11 wireless capabilities under a mesh environment to cover 25 million square feet of the Cincinnati, Ohio, and Newport and Covington, Ky., riverfront.

CalAmp to acquire DataRadio

CalAmp announced it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire DataRadio, a Canadian supplier of wireless data products and systems for mission-critical applications. Through this acquisition, the company plans to expand its wireless data communications business for public-safety and M2M applications.

Dual directional coupler covers 20 to 500 MHz range

Innovative Power Products released its Model IPP-3001 dual directional coupler. The product covers the 20 to 500 MHz frequency range, provides separate coupled ports for forward and reflected signals and rates 1000 watts of continuous RF power, according to the company.

Alvarion, IBM converge on municipal Wi-Fi systems

Alvarion and IBM will partner to deliver wireless systems to municipalities and public-safety agencies. The scalable, multi-layered, IP-based wireless network will support data and video for fixed and mobile applications based on IBM’s productivity suite and Alvarion’s broadband and wireless system. A beta version operating in the 900 MHz was field tested in Fresno, Calif., according to a joint statement.
