The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials–International (APCO) is the first frequency coordinator to be certified for the paperless exchange of licensing applications. The FCC’s licensing division in Gettysburg, PA, informed APCO to begin sending all license applications electronically through a process known as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). T he two parties have spent two years developing and testing the system. The computer program for EDI was developed by the association’s information systems staff. APCO International is the designated frequency coordinator for all public safety agencies above 800MHz and for law enforcement agencies and local governments below 800MHz. Applicants requesting licenses using the new FCC Form 600 can now expect speedier service of their applications.
