Bill Brown of the Bill Brown Company, Tucker, GA, wins the first George M. Hanus Award from Maxrad, Hanover Park, IL. The award was initiated to commemorate Maxrad’s 20th anniversary of its establishment by George M. Hanus in 1978. Brown has been involved in the electronics industry since 1954. His company was the second authorized Maxrad sales representative hired by Hanus.
David Fein, director of product management for Allen Telecom, Cleveland, advances to vice president of sales and marketing at the Worldwide Site Products Division of Allen Telecom.
Timothy B. Weber, controller for Triangle Communications, New Holland, PA, moves up to chief operating officer.

Changes at the Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (WTB) of the FCC, Washington, DC: Kathleen O’Brien, chief of the Auctions and Industry Analysis Division, becomes acting deputy chief of the bureau’s front office. Josh Roland, attorney-advisor in the Wireless Bureau’s Actions and Industry Analysis Divison, moves up to legal advisor for the bureau’s front office. Steven Weingarten, legal advisor to the WTB chief, is named chief of the Commercial Wireless Division. Amy Zoslov, deputy chief of the Auctions and Industry Analysis Division, advances to acting chief of the same division. David Furth, chief of the Commercial Wireless Division, becomes co-chair of the Universal Licensing System.

Changes at Watkins-Johnson, Palo Alto, CA: Frank E. Emery is promoted to vice president, corporate planning and communications, after holding a succession of management, sales and engineering positions at Watkins-Johnson. Douglas P. Foster, director of national programs, becomes vice president of sales for the Telecommunications Group, based in Gaithersburg, MD.
Changes at UTC, The Telecommunications Association, Washington, DC: William R. Moroney departs the Multimedia Telecommunications Association to become the new executive director of UTC. Moroney succeeds Mike Meehan who is returning to the practice of law and consulting.
Changes at Orbcomm, Dulles, VA: Scott L. Webster, president of Orbital Communications, is appointed chairman of the Orbcomm Partner Board. Alan L. Parker, president, assumes the role of president, Orbcomm Global development. Robert F. Latham, executive vice president, is named president. William J. Meder, president of Orbcomm Canada, advances to vice chairman.
