Access Spectrum inks technical services deal with USMSS
USMSS, Antioch, Ill., has begun offering technical services to Access Spectrum customers, Bethesda, Md., under an agreement the two organizations announced this morning.
USMSS, an association of more than 150 Motorola Service Stations, will provide spectrum monitoring, system compliance consulting, system engineering design and interference resolution services. The customers involved lease spectrum for wireless voice and data communications in the 700 and 220 MHz bands from Access Spectrum.
USMSS will proactively monitor spectrum performance and provide interference assistance and resolution. Through USMSS, Access Spectrum gains the capability to assist private carriers and private system operators with system engineering design consultation requests and system compliance issues to maximize system efficiency and prevent interference. The technical knowledge offered is localized to the sites and coverage characteristics of each Motorola Service Station’s geographic area. Access Spectrum describes the proactive design and system interference resolution service as the first of its kind for private system operators.
“Providing exclusive spectrum is only part of our communications solution,” said Mark Crosby, Access Spectrum’s president. “At Access Spectrum, we realize that mission- critical communications systems require exclusive spectrum, design flexibility, system customization, proactive performance monitoring and troubleshooting, all of which help build and sustain system integrity and, ultimately, protect each of our customers’ communications investment.”
Crosby said that system operators using his company’s spectrum would be able to address system interference issues with a single phone call.
“In the past, interference issues in other bands could take months, or even years, to resolve,” Crosby said.
Established in 2000, Access Spectrum offers exclusive spectrum coverage in any channel bandwidth in the 220 MHz land mobile radio band and 700 MHz Guard Band. The company’s spectrum holdings currently include between 12 and 20 12.5 kHz channel pairs throughout the country and 80 12.5 kHz channel pairs in two-thirds of the United States, including cities such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Salt Lake City.
USMSS gives MSSs the opportunity to pursue collective business development, customer service capabilities and vendor opportunities. The association also represents its members before the FCC and Congress.
