With a population of more than 1.3 million and a jurisdiction covering 33,000 square miles, the Maine State Police looked for a public safety solution that could meet their growing needs while increasing public and officer safety.
Department officials tapped Motorola for an “Integrated Public Safety Solution,” comprising computer-aided dispatch, a mobile data computer link and a reporting system that incorporates Maine’s existing law records management. The system also includes an automated fingerprint ID system.
The new system will provide officers information about suspects, threats and dangerous situations before stepping out of their vehicles.
The project is scheduled for a three-phase rollout to be wrapped up by next summer.
