Minorplanet systems slashes costs
A patented data transfer option opens doors for fleet managers and cuts costs at the same time.
Vehicle Management Information (VMI), a fleet management system, uses low-power two-way radio frequency waves that enable Minorplanet customers to download vehicle location information without airtime charges. Normally, vehicle data is downloaded over the cellular network, but with RF, customers whose vehicles regularly return to the same location, or “base,” can transfer vehicle information reliably.
The system has been tested in the United States and has been in use in the United Kingdom since 1996.
The cellular download option uses the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network, with providers T-Mobile (formerly Voicestream) and Cingular Wireless.
