Valere Power unveils new system

Valere Power has introduced the Integrated Power System, an expandable DC power distribution system that reduces power-related costs for remote broadband and wireless telecommunications equipment locations.

Based on Valere’s patented power conversion technology that is 50 percent smaller and emits 35 percent less heat than current technology, the Integrated Power System reduces energy, cooling, management and maintenance expenses resulting in a cost savings of up to $4,000 for an average location.

The Integrated Power System converts AC power into either 24 or 48VDC at up to 600 amps and manages power distribution to telecommunications equipment and battery-based backup systems.

The system offers enough current to power larger remote locations serving up to 5,000 telephone lines, but also offers a one-shelf chassis for use in smaller, high-growth locations that need an expandable entry-level solution.

The Integrated Power System offers one of the first system controllers with capabilities for configuring and managing both the power system and the battery back-up system. System status and configuration and battery status can be monitored via Valere’s Web-based management application, can be integrated into a global network management application based on the simple network management protocol (SNMP), or can be remotely downloaded using Telnet or FTP.

The Integrated Power Supply is NEBS Level 3 certified and features up to two power shelves and two distribution modules.

At 24 volts, the system offers 300 amps per shelf (600 amps total), and at -48 volts it offers 250 amps per shelf (500 amps total). It can support up to five modular power rectifiers per shelf that are redundant and hot-luggable.

It is available in both 19-inch and 23-inch rack widths.

The Integrated Power Supply works with Valere’s new V1500B and V2500A rectifiers. The rectifiers provide 92 percent typical power conversion efficiency, a 20 percent decrease in power loss compared to the industry norm for rectifiers. This efficiency reduces thermal load, which improves the reliability and availability of the system.

The V1500B outputs 24 VDC at up to 60 amps, the V2500A outputs -48 VDC and offers up to 50 amps of current.

The rectifiers are fully redundant and hot pluggable for replacement or maintenance without any down time.

The Integrated DC Power System is available for immediate delivery with U.S. list prices start at $3,500.

Venturi introduces accelerators

Venturi Wireless announced a new family of wireless accelerators that provide optimization solutions for mobile carriers and their enterprise customers. A key requirement to the widespread adoption of wireless data services is speed, and the new Venturi product line delivers the fastest wireless experience available, increasing network speeds up to 5X and supporting the broadest range of data applications and mobile platforms.

The Venturi20 is a second generation, carrier grade acceleration appliance that enables mobile operators to successfully drive the introduction and adoption of wireless data services, while the Venturi100e is specifically designed for enterprises to securely deploy in conjunction with their VPN infrastructure.

The Venturi20 transparently overlays existing wireless network infrastructures and optimizes network capacity, enabling more user capacity and performance for both data and voice. Cost is a critical element both at the end user level for adoption as well as at the carrier level in terms of infrastructure investment.

Venturi20 delivers a strong return on investment (ROI) by extending current network life and delivering 3G level performance without large new capital expenditures, the company says. Client and clientless options are available, and enhancements to the company’s patented VTP technology and new PNG compression capabilities ensure that wireless data services users achieve maximum performance.

The Venturi20 is a second generation, carrier grade acceleration appliance meant to enable mobile operators to successfully drive the introduction and adoption of wireless data services, while the Venturi100e is specifically designed for enterprises to securely deploy in conjunction with their VPN infrastructure.

The Venturi20 provides mobile operators with predictable industry leading performance under high-user load. The system utilizes dual Xeon processors with up to 1 Gigabyte of onboard RAM and has dual LAN interfaces with support for auto-sensing 10/100/1000 Ethernet.

Venturi20 is managed from any web browser and supports established troubleshooting technologies such as Syslog and SNMP. Client deployment and upgrades are easily available to users through a client that can be downloaded over the Internet.

Venturi100e

Mobile business workers require access from their laptops and handhelds to email, Intranet applications and the Internet. To date, adoption of wireless remote access by enterprises has been hindered by low access speeds.

The Venturi100e provides enterprises with simple, secure and cost effective wireless solutions that enable mobile workers to access email and business applications at speeds accelerated by up to 5X when compared to a regular wireless connection. Email continues to be the killer application for enterprise workers, and the Venturi100e features specific acceleration technology for Microsoft Exchange. The appliance is interoperable with Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) from Nortel, Cisco and Checkpoint ensures seamless implementation with existing infrastructure to provide secure end-to-end high-speed wireless access. With Venturi, users experience speeds in excess of 100 kbps over wireless wide area networks anywhere, anytime.

Venturi supports client platforms including Windows 98/2000/NT/XP, with WinCe and Mac clients now supported.

The Venturi20 is available immediately, with the Venturi100e available in June.

Advantest breaks Bluetooth ground

Advantest America Measuring Solutions introduces the R4870, the first single-instrument solution that can perform both radio frequency and interoperability tests in accordance with the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) specifications.

The R4870 can be used during R&D and manufacturing to test a Bluetooth product’s radio frequency characteristics, as well as its interoperability with other Bluetooth-enabled products.

For verification of a Bluetooth module’s RF performance, the R4870 is capable of performing tests on output power, power control, modulation characteristics, initial carrier frequency tolerance and receiver sensitivity as defined by the SIG. The R4870 also comes with a number of additional functions, such as the ability to automatically start testing of Bluetooth modules via its embedded Host Control Interface (HCI) and the ability to perform tests using a “dirty” transmitter signal (an irregularly modulated signal used to test a product’s receiver characteristics).

The R4870 has all of the Blue Unit test cases built in, making it easy to perform communication tests according to SIG specifications by eliminating the need for separate interoperability test equipment. The R4870 executes the built-in tests sequentially and a color-coded PASS or FAIL is indicated upon completion of each test.

Advantest’s WMT architecture also ensures measurement accuracy. The R4870 has a frequency resolution of 1 kHz and level resolution of 1 dB when conducting transmitter tests over the 2402 to 2480 MHz frequency range. For receiver tests, the R4870 covers the 300 to -300 kHz frequency range and has a power measurement range of -15 to + 23 dBm (Chan 1).

In addition to providing performance advantages, the R4870 is simple to operate, compact in size, and lightweight. It features a 12-inch color touch-panel display that enables quick setup and easy operation. Despite the large LCD display, the R4870 measures only 16 W × 10 H × 100 D (inches) and weighs 33 pounds.

The R4870 is the master controller in a pre-qualification test system for product prototypes when combined with other test equipment, such as spectrum analyzers and pattern generators. The R4870-based prequalification test system is capable of testing all the radio frequency requirements specified by the SIG, giving manufacturers the ability to perform pre-qualification testing and to accelerate their certification process by a Bluetooth Qualification Test Facility (BQTF).

The R4870 is priced at $24,800 and is available for delivery in 6 weeks ARO.
