Airaya selects Atheros chips for 4.9 GHz products
Airaya has chosen Atheros Communications’ wireless LAN chipset technology to be used in its public-safety series of WirelessGRID bridges for wireless multipoint and backhaul networks in the 4.9 GHz band for homeland security and public safety, Atheros announced today.
Recently certified by the FCC, Airaya’s WirelessGRID bridges combine four operating bands–4.9, 5.2, 5.4 and 5.8 GHz–and four channel-size selections to give public-safety organizations flexibility to communicate in multiple wireless environments.
“The 4.9GHz band offers homeland security and public-safety organizations their own high-speed wireless communications band,” Mike Nydam, president and chief executive officer of Airaya, said in a prepared statement. “The Atheros chipset enables us to provide our customers with compelling solutions designed to meet the need for secure, reliable, fast and affordable public safety wireless multipoint and backhaul solutions.”
The Atheros chipset features an Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to enable real-time support for 802.11i security with no degradation of operating rates, according to the company.
“Atheros’ advanced wireless chipsets feature a wide tuning range including 4.9GHz band support,” Atheros President and CEO Craig Barratt said in a prepared statement. “We’re pleased to join Airaya in developing new products that will enhance wireless networking for public safety agencies.”
