Passive and active RF in-building solution

Radio Frequency Systems unveiled the ClearFill, a suite of end-to-end wireless in-building coverage solutions. It combines passive and active RF technologies, including an off-air repeater and single-antenna assembly, a distributed antenna network and bi-directional amplifiers, according to the company.

Glucose-sensing RFID microchip

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office awarded Digital Angel a patent for its syringe-implantable, glucose-sensing passive RFID microchip. The microchip measures glucose concentration levels in diabetic patents and wirelessly transmits the data when scanned by a hand-held reader, according to the company.

Wi-Fi and WiMAX lightning protection

NexTek recently announced the addition of the QSS 400, designed for Wi-Fi and WiMAX applications, to its line of SurgeGuard quarter wave stub lightning protectors. The QSS 400 exceeds 802.11, UNII, ISM and MIL-SD-202 standards and covers frequencies from 2.4 GHz to 6 GHz, the company said. It also offers bi-directional protection, low VSWR (1.05 typical) normal and reverse polarity, high RF power and ultra-low let-through.

Filter signal interference

K&L Microwave released the WSN-00256, a 941 MHz pager interference notch filter. The filter has a 45 dB minimum rejection from 940 MHz to 943 MHz to mitigate signal interference produced by co-location of paging and cellular systems in buildings.

Agilent launches new products

Agilent Technologies launched the next-generation of its GENESYS RF and Microwave Design software. The new release includes the modeling of oscillator phase noise, along with a 10:1 speed performance improvement for DC analysis simulations, according to the company.

The company also released the W1314A receiver that lets engineers troubleshoot UMTS and GSM networks, with an optional add-on for CDMA2000, EV-DO and iDEN technologies.

Vehicle-tracking

MyDealerLot introduced a Web-based Wi-Fi solution that uses radio frequency identification technology in conjunction with an automotive dealer’s existing wireless network to provide an “always-on” view of the dealership’s inventory. The solution pinpoints vehicle location to “within several feet” and lets dealerships track test-drives and more effectively manage inventory storage, according to the company.

PDA device with WiMAX and CDMA EV-DO

Samsung unveiled the SPH-P9000 Deluxe MITs, a 1 lb. PDA that provides mobile WiMAX and CDMA EV-DO connectivity. Users have wireless access to the Internet via mobile WiMAX and mobile phone connection for voice communication through the CDMA EV-DO technology.

Software-defined radio platform

Texas Instruments now offers its small form-factor, software-defined radio development platform targeted at the portable military communications market. The platform, developed in collaboration with Xilinx and other third parties, provides signal-chain hardware from antenna to baseband as well as a software board support package in a single integrated development platform. Developers can design waveforms as well as create and test single- or multi-protocol radios for applications in military, public-safety, commercial, professional mobile radio and LMR communication systems, as well as RFID readers, according to the company.

IP Wireless unveiled its 700 MHz band public-safety solution. The UMTS TD-CDMA-based solution operates in all 700 MHz band plans currently under FCC consideration, according to the company.

Rapid deployment cellular system

TECORE Wireless Systems and TCOM unveiled the Airborne Rapid Deployment Cellular System. The GSM/CDMA wireless system utilizes TECORE’s Rapid Response Mini-Cellular Systems and TCOM’s 17M Aerostat RF payload and antenna system to deploy a wide-area, cellular coverage umbrella for emergency-response situations and tactical communications.

Lightning protector for RF frequencies

EFM Communications introduced the EFM-30-1000 coaxial lightning protector, which has a high-pass filter circuit with a DC-blocking capacitor. The protector passes RF frequencies from 30 MHz to 1000 MHz.

Security solution for Nokia handsets

Pointsec Mobile Technologies unveiled the Symbian 3.0 S60 edition, a new version of its security solution supporting Nokia E50, E60, E61, E62 and E70 handsets. The software meets standards set forth by the Open Mobile Alliance — an industry forum for developing market driven, interoperable mobile service enablers — and comes with the Intellisync Device Management solution from Nokia.
