QinetiQ North America’s subsidiary, Foster-Miller, is now offering a TALON Responder robot specifically designed for public-safety, fire and rescue organizations. The robot houses wireless digital systems, as well as analog communication systems. It includes three infrared color cameras, including a pan/tilt mast with a color zoom camera. A laptop controller with gamepad controls allows operation of TALON Responder from a maximum range of 1600 to 4000 feet, according to the company.
OSI Systems announced that its security division, Rapiscan Systems, has received a $2 million contract from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Domestic Nuclear Detection Office. Under the terms of the contract, the company will develop technology that would detect weapons of mass destruction, such as nuclear weapons and radiological dispersal devices. The technology will be embedded into the company’s Eagle Portal, a drive-through, X-ray imaging system used to scan cargo.
AtHoc landed a $5.4 million contract from the U.S. Air Force Central Command (USAFCENT) for the deployment of its IWSAlerts. USAFCENT is the air component of the U.S. Central Command and is responsible for air operations. Once deployed, the alert system is designed to provide a command-wide alerting solution, as well as providing each installation with its own local alerting system, according to the company.
Telephonics Corp. procured a $2 million contract from the U.S. Air Force for its TruLink Wireless Intercommunication Systems. It will support wireless voice communications between Air Force aeromedical personal who work in high-noise environments, such as inside an aircraft, the company said.
Avago Technologies, a supplier of interface components for communication applications, unveiled a Band 8 WCDMA duplexer. The ACMD-7605 offers 1.3dB typical Tx insertion loss and 3.5dB max IL over-temperature that significantly lowers power consumption and improves talk time, according to the company. It also offers over-temperature isolation performance of 51dB min in the Tx band and 48dB min in the Rx band.
EF Johnson Technologies has been selected by a major systems integrator to add Over the Air Programming functionality to its Project 25-compliant radios presently operating on the customer’s system. The order is for a Department of Defense customer in support on the war on terrorism and is valued at $955,000.
