Courts approve LM Ericsson’s bid to buy Nortel Networks
U.S. and Canadian courts have approved Swedish wireless company LM Ericsson’s $1.13 billion bid to buy next-generation wireless technology and other assets from insolvent telecom-equipment maker Nortel Networks Corp. In his ruling Tuesday, U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Kevin Gross in Wilmington, Del., said he was satisfied that the assets were being sold at a fair price and that both Nortel and its creditors will benefit. The Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto also approved the deal, according to reports.
EADS Secure Networks system deployed by Tennessee PS agency
EADS Secure Networks North America announced the full system acceptance of its CORP25 digital, trunked land mobile radio system by Cumberland County, Tenn., to replace the county’s conventional analog radio system. The CORP25 provides an open standards-compliant digital, trunked radio system with interoperability to existing conventional VHF radio networks and dispatch systems. It is an IP-based, digital trunked solution that lets P25 and non-P25 radios operate together on one core architecture. The new network enables coordinated communications amongst its users, including the sheriff’s department, two fire departments, the rescue squad, local correctional facility, EMS and emergency management, according to the company.
Fortress Technologies’ wireless bridge used at JRTC
Fortress Technologies announced that its secure wireless bridges are a core component of an operationally validated solution tested during a Joint Readiness Training Center mission-readiness exercise. The solution, known as LastLink, is a scalable turnkey solution that incorporates the company’s Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS)–validated secure wireless bridges, Luxul Wireless’ Shock-WAV frequency-translating amplifiers and antennas, and Smartronix ruggedized components and packaging. According to the company, the solution provides point-to-point/point-to-multipoint connectivity over 802.11a and 4.4-4.6 GHz military bands, secure wide-area Wi-Fi coverage over 802.11b/g and fixed and mobile mesh networking.
L-com unveils USB surge protector
L-com unveiled a new panel-mount USB surge protector. The AL-ECF504-AB is a commercial-quality device designed to protect a computer’s sensitive USB ports from surges and spikes from attached devices. To ensure USB 2.0 speeds, the device uses ultra-low capacitance diodes to protect the data lines. In addition, a protection device clamps the power lines to safe levels. This USB surge protector is ideal for protecting a PC from USB connected devices including USB hubs, Wi-Fi USB client adapters, and USB-enabled surveillance cameras.
PCTEL launches GPS multiband antenna
PCTEL launched the Medallion GPS multiband antenna. This antenna offers coverage of GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900, 3G (806-960 MHz/1710-2170 MHz) and Wi-Fi/WiMAX (2.3-2.6 GHz) frequencies, coupled with GPS L1 capability. It will cost $115 and will be available Sept. 1.
