Licensed amateur, or "ham," radio operators in Alabama recently showed area residents how amateur radio service can help bridge the gap when a major disaster knocks out power grids, landline phones and most cell-phone service.
From the Greenville Advocate: Licensed amateur, or “ham,” radio operators in Alabama recently showed area residents how amateur radio service can help bridge the gap when a major disaster knocks out power grids, landline phones and most cell-phone service. The gathering was part of Field Day, an event held across the U.S. and Canada in which more than 35,000 radio operators show how their non-commercial-powered stations can communicate.
