Nixle, MIR3 win GSN awards for mass notifications
From Government Security News: The recent GSN homeland security awards competition bestowed honors on two different companies, Nixle and MIR3, which approach mass notification in two different ways.
Nixle delivers one-way text messages, via the recipient’s mobile phone. The company says it is already being used by one-third of all public safety agencies in the country. As this percentage grows, the usefulness of its mass notification capabilities will continue to expand. While the mass notifications from Nixle garner the most public attention during a crisis, they are also important to deliver more routine, day-to-day messages.
The other 2011 mass notification GSN award winner, MIR3, specializes in two-way mass notifications. The company’s Intelligent Notification software enables two-way communications for business operations, such as crisis management, IT security management, agency communications and event management, according to MIR3’s official entry to GSN. Its inEnterprise solution enables agencies to deliver alerts to a wide range of devices, including landline SMS, email, pager, Blackberry PIN-to-PIN, fax, TTY and more, says the company. MIR3 recently launched a companion service, known as MIR3 Mobile Recipient, which is a mobile application that runs of smart phone platforms such as Android, BlackBerry and iPhone.
