Military multi-band pack radio tested
Harris Corp. said that its new Falcon III multi-band, man-pack radio was used successfully to provide mobile networking of high-bandwidth voice and data during a 10-day exercise recently conducted by the U.S. Army. The exercise was held to test technologies for integration into the Patriot missile communications system. According to Harris, the Falcon III provides secure transmission of data to the Army’s tactical Internet at speeds up to 10 Mb/s, a big improvement over “noisy radio channels,” said Harris RF Communications President Dana Mehnert, in a statement. “[This allows] data-intensive applications to be used in situations that were never before practical,” Mehnert said.
In addition to providing soldiers with secure networked voice and data communications while on the move, the Falcon III also can link to legacy radios, the company said.
